Life Story for Lawrence La Rose

Brookfield, CT-- Lawrence G. La Rose, known affectionately as “Sonny” to all who knew him, passed away November 12, 2015 among his adoring children: Thomas La Rose, Patricia La Rose, Catherine Mota, Lawrence La Rose, Jr., Melissa Marici and Christopher White.

Sonny, born on August 31, 1936, in Queens, NY was a brick mason by trade working until the age of 79. He was a free-spirit with a unfailing love for the road, as his eldest son Tommy describes, “It didn’t take much convincing to get Dad to take a road trip to just about anywhere.”

With homes in Eastern Long Island and the Adirondacks, Sonny appreciated nature and loved being on the water. He always had a home project underway.

His greatest passions in life were fishing, horseracing and spending time with his family, not necessarily in that order. He would travel near and far for any of these including trips to Dubai, Alaska, and Vegas.

He was bigger than life with a heart of gold, an iron will and a surprising soft side that made him the best Santa year after year. Sonny also served our country as a Marine during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Smith and her children Amanda and Christian Smith-Socras. In addition to his six children noted above, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Ferrari Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street (at McClellan St. in Jones Funeral Home) on Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 PM, following which then a funeral service will be held at 7 PM.
