Life Story for Mary Lyden

COLONIE—Mary E. Lyden, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27th at The Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Mary was born in Buffalo, New York a daughter of the late James and Roberta Sherman. She was a graduate of Columbia High School and St. Peter’s School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a labor and delivery nurse for the former Brady Hospital and then St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany from where she retired. In her time as a nurse, she helped ensure the safe delivery of over 1,800 new lives into the world, including her three grandchildren.
Mary was a beautiful woman, a devoted friend and an incomparable mother with an infectious smile. Her presence was so great that she personally touched the lives of anyone she encountered. Her three grandchildren were her biggest source of pride. She loved to read, garden and travel to Cape Cod and attend all of her grandchildren's functions.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, Peter Lyden.
Survivors include her devoted children, Marisa Ann (Sean) Geraghty and Michael Terence (Laura Brown) Lyden; adoring grandchildren whom she cherished, Seamus Conan Geraghty, Aine Catherine Geraghty and Bridget Elizabeth Geraghty; adoring sister, Martha (Armond) Lopez; her faithful four-legged family members, Maggie Mae and Rosie; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union Street, Schenectady. Interment to follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Ferrari Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street (at McClellan St. in Jones Funeral Home) on Friday from 4 until 7 PM.
In lieu of traditional memorials, the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made in Mary’s memory to the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital, 315 S.
